Questions about this service
Why do wardrobe doors start dragging on the floor?
Heavy solid doors pull hinge screws out of soft pine frames over years, or the floor settles slightly.
Do you need to take the whole door down to plane it?
Usually yes. We take the door off its hinges, plane the bottom or top edge outside or on dust sheets, and re-hang it.
Can you repair cabinet doors where the screw holes have completely stripped out?
Yes. We drill out the stripped hole, glue in a tight hardwood dowel, chisel it flush, and drill a fresh pilot hole.
How The Repair Works
-
1
Diagnosing bind points
We run feeler gauges around the perimeter to find where the timber binds against the frame.
-
2
Hinge repair and remounting
We plug enlarged screw holes with hardwood dowels and re-hang the door straight.
-
3
Edge easing and clearance
We plane a neat 2mm gap around all edges so seasonal expansion will not bind the door.
-
4
Latch and catch adjustment
We adjust keeps and strike plates so the doors close flush without rattling.
Why Choose Our Workshop
No floor scratching
Correctly swung doors stop dragging across timber floorboards and carpet edges.
Season-proof margins
We leave consistent 2mm gaps so doors still open smoothly during humid months.
Original hinges kept
We rebuild loose hinge seats in the timber frame so historic brass hinges remain in use.

What Customers Report
Our Victorian walnut table had two split leaves and loose legs. Arthur picked it up, re-glued the runners, and oiled the top. The table sits level on our floorboards and holds six people easily.
Julian M., Islington, London, GBThe beech dining chairs had wobbled for three years. They dismantled every joint, cleaned the old glue out, and clamped them tight. Solid as iron now. Payment was simple via bank transfer after inspection.
Claire T., Camden, London, GBRemoved dark water rings from a Danish teak credenza without taking away the original color. One drawer needed realigning afterwards, which they sorted on the spot.
