How The Repair Works
Assessment and Fixed Quote
Send us clear photos of the damaged joint or surface. We inspect the construction details and issue a fixed price in writing.
Bench Disassembly and Clamping
We collect your item in our padded van. At the Clerkenwell bench, we clean joint mortises, apply hide glue, and clamp for forty-eight hours.
Hand Finishing and Return Delivery
We apply natural wax or oil, test the piece under normal domestic weight, and return it blanket-wrapped. You pay only after checking the work.
Prices at a glance
Starting rates. We put your fixed labour quote in writing.
Why Choose Our Workshop
We keep original British timber in daily use through sound structural joinery and traditional finishes. We quote fixed labour prices before we lift a chisel.
Fixed Price Quotes
We examine photographs or visit your home, then issue a firm price in writing before work starts.
Named Bench Restorer
The craftsman who quotes your furniture is the same specialist who works on it at the bench.
Fully Insured Workshop
Your pieces carry full commercial liability and transit protection from collection to return.
Reversible Finishes Only
We avoid modern polyurethane sprays that crack and ruin the natural patina of old timber.
Punctual Scheduled Visits
We book exact arrival windows for assessments and deliveries, not open half-day slots.
Thirty Day Guarantee
If a reglued joint loosens within thirty days of return, we collect and reset it without charge.
Who does the work
We assess the timber species and grain direction before touching the surface. A good repair should hold weight without drawing attention to itself.
What Customers Report
Our Victorian walnut table had two split leaves and loose legs. Arthur picked it up, re-glued the runners, and oiled the top. The table sits level on our floorboards and holds six people easily.
Julian M., Islington, London, GBThe beech dining chairs had wobbled for three years. They dismantled every joint, cleaned the old glue out, and clamped them tight. Solid as iron now. Payment was simple via bank transfer after inspection.
Claire T., Camden, London, GBRemoved dark water rings from a Danish teak credenza without taking away the original color. One drawer needed realigning afterwards, which they sorted on the spot.
Marcus B., Hackney, London, GBWhere We Work
We work in homes, flats and commercial properties within three miles of our Clerkenwell Close workshop.

Before you book
How do you calculate your quotes?
We estimate the actual bench hours required to clean joints, cure glue, and finish timber surfaces. We provide a single fixed price including local van transport before any work begins. There are no hourly surcharges added later.
When and how do I pay for the work?
You do not pay a deposit for standard repairs. When we return your furniture to your home, you inspect the joints and finish thoroughly. Once satisfied, you settle the invoice via direct bank transfer or cash on return.
What is covered under your 30-day workmanship guarantee?
If any joint or structural repair we completed loosens, cracks, or moves within thirty days of delivery, we collect the piece, fix it, and return it at our own expense.
Can I cancel my repair booking?
You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before our scheduled van collection time. If we have already collected the piece and you change your mind before bench work starts, you only cover the direct return transport fee.
Preparing for Our Visit
Clear all personal items, papers and ornaments off and out of the furniture piece.
Ensure a clear walking route between the entrance door and the working space.
A typical on-site repair takes between two and five hours depending on clamp cure times.
Payment is due upon completion by cash or immediate bank transfer.
Have a Broken or Marked Piece of Furniture?
Send us two clear photos of the damage along with approximate measurements. We will review the timber and call you back within four working hours with an itemised quote.
